B.S Convolver Mod - Creative Convolution Reverb (+56 Free Impulse Responses)
B.S Convolver Mod is an enhanced and improved version of the Ableton Convolution Reverb programmed by Alex Harker. It makes some of the features available only in the more complex pro version easily accessible and adds visual feedback for a better understanding of your impulse responses. In addition, new features not found in the original have been integrated along with an improved, highly accurate display that shows exactly how your impulse response looks.
On top of that, you receive 56 custom creative impulse responses in WAV format, synthesized and recorded using various processing chains.
Since the original device was bundled as a free pack with Ableton Suite, this is a free release as well. However, as the modding work was extensive, if you appreciate these added features, please consider leaving us a small tip; it helps us continue providing high-quality devices.
Note: The “factory” IRs are not bundled with this modded version due to licensing issues. You can still obtain them by downloading and installing the original pack from Ableton.
New Features and Operation
-
Selection:
With this slider you can choose the part of the impulse response to use for the convolution. Using select sections of an IR can result in dramatically different and unique sounds compared to using the complete response. After partitioning, the impulse response is normalized, meaning even quiet portions (like the end of a reverb tail) can yield exciting results.
The selection control is processed offline, so it can’t be automated and may take a moment to render depending on your hardware.
Mousing Actions:
- Shift-click: extend the range instead of replacing it.
- Command-click (Mac) / Control-double-click (Win) & drag: shift the current range values up or down.
- Option-click (Mac) / Alt-click (Win) & vertical drag: expand or shrink the currently selected range.
- Command-double-click (Mac) / Control-double-click (Win): select the entire range. -
Fades:
With this slider you can set fades for the impulse response. The impulse response gets normalised after the fades, so adding a fade to the beginning of a sample with a very fast falloff can boost the tail of the sound, enhancing the sonic character.
Fades are processed offline and use the same mousing actions as the selection control.
The background waveform displays the current impulse response used for convolution. You can also load your own IRs by dragging and dropping them onto this area. Experiment by loading random samples not intended as impulse responses (or even full songs) to create unique, experimental sounds. Please note that processing large files may take a bit longer. -
Reset:
On the IR page: Resets the selection and fade controls.
On the EQ page: Resets the EQ to its default state. -
Random:
This button randomizes the fades, selection, decay, and size, and also selects a random IR from the folder you’ve chosen. If you loaded a custom IR, it will select a random file from the folder containing the initial IR. Randomization may take a bit of time for longer IRs and will typically generate at least two undo steps. This is a known bug, that currently can't be fixed and won't block the undo history. -
Reverse:
This feature allows you to reverse the impulse response. Reversing occurs before applying the selection and fades.
Bonus tip:
Make your own impulse responses! It's really easy especially when using this rack.
Compatibility & Requirements
- Requires Ableton Live 12 Suite or Standard with a Max for Live license.
- This device is a Max for Live (M4L) plugin, not a VST plugin.
- The custom impulse responses can be used in any convolution reverb that can load .wav files.
